Setting Up Email: iOS Mail Application (iPhone and Apple Mobile Devices)

This article is designed to guide university-affiliated persons through the process of configuring their University of Oregon email account with the iOS Mail application for iPhones and Apple Mobile Devices.

UOmail and Exchange

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Tap Accounts, and then click Add Account.
  4. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  5. Enter your full UO email address.
  6. Change the description if you wish.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. A prompt will ask you if you would like to connect via Microsoft. Click Sign In.
  9. After verification is complete, enter your Duck ID password.
  10. Change the description if you wish.
  11. Tap Next.
  12. Choose what you would like to sync to your device. Only mail is required.
  13. Tap Save to complete account setup.

To update your password:

The Mail app will prompt you to update your password when you open the app. If it doesn't, remove the account from Passwords & Accounts, then add it back using the instructions above.

Webmail

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Click Accounts and then click Add Account.
  4. Tap Other.
  5. Tap Add Mail Account.
  6. Enter your name, UO email address and Duck ID password (the same password you would use for Canvas or Webmail).
  7. Change the description, if you wish.
  8. Tap the Next button at the top right.
  9. In the Host Name box, enter imap.uoregon.edu
  10. In the User Name box, enter your @uoregon.edu email.
  11. In the Password box, enter your Duck ID password.
  12. In the Outgoing Mail Server section, in the Host Name box enter smtp.uoregon.edu
  13. In the User Name box, enter your @uoregon.edu email.
  14. In the Password box, enter your Duck ID password.
  15. If there are any buttons/options for SSL with IMAP or SMTP, then please make sure SSL is in the ON position for IMAP and START/TLS is selected for SMTP.
  16. When configuring the ports, you'll want to have the IMAP port set to 993 and the SMTP port set to 587.
  17. Tap the Next button at the top right.
  18. Mail will now verify your settings... Please wait for it to finish.
  19. Tap the Save button at the top right.
Note: If you have issues adding the account, try entering just your Duck ID in the User Name box instead of the full @uoregon.edu email. 

To update your password:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Click Accounts.
  4. Tap on your University of Oregon email account.
  5. Under the IMAP header, tap Account.
  6. Under Incoming Mail Server, enter your updated password.
  7. Under Outgoing Mail Server, tap on smtp.uoregon.edu
  8. Under Primary Server, tap on smtp.uoregon.edu
  9. Under Outgoing Mail Server, tap on password and enter your updated password in the password field.
  10. Tap Done in the upper right-hand corner.
