Setting Up Email: macOS Mail Application (Apple Desktops & MacBooks)

Webmail

  1. Open the Mail application. The icon resembles a stamp
  2. In the top left corner of your screen, click Mail
  3. In the Mail menu, click Add Account ...
  4. For the mail account type select the last option, Other Mail Account... and click Continue
  5. In the Name field, enter your name as you would like it to appear in your email messages
  6. In the Email Address field, enter your full UOregon email address
  7. In the Password field, enter your Duck ID password
  8. Click the Create button. Anothter window will appear with a message saying Unable to verify account name or password
  9. For Account Type, make sure IMAP is selected.
  10. In the Incoming Mail Server field, enter "imap.uoregon.edu"
  11. In the Outgoing Mail Server field, enter "smtp.uoregon.edu"
  12. Click the Sign In button
  13. Another box will appear with options of what apps you would like to use with this account. Make sure Mail is checked and click Done

To update your password:

  1. Open the Mail application
  2. In the top left corner of your screen, click Mail
  3. Click Preferences...
  4. A new window will appear. Click Accounts at the top of this window
  5. Click your UOregon IMAP account on the left hand side
  6. Click the Server Settings tab towards the top of this window
  7. Under Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) verify your information is correct
  8. Update your Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) password to your current password
  9. Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) verify your information is correct
  10. Update your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) password to your current password
  11. Close the window to save your changes
  12. Send a test email to yourself: Click Compose, address it to yourself, put in something for the subject and body (e.g. "test") and hit send
  13. If you are able to receive this message in your inbox, then you have successfully changed your password for your email account

Exchange and UOmail

  1. Open the Mail application. The icon resembles a stamp
  2. In the top left corner of your screen, click Mail
  3. In the Mail menu, click Add Account...
  4. For the mail account type select the second option, Exchange, and click Continue
  5. In the Name field, enter your name as you would like it to appear in your email messages
  6. In the Email Address field, enter your full UOregon email address
  7. Cick Sign In, then click Configure Manually
    • If you click Sign in again instead of Configure Manually, a browser sign-in page will open, where you can sign in with your full UOregon email address and password as well
  8. In the Password field, enter your Duck ID password
  9. Click Sign In again
  10. Another box will appear with options of what apps you would like to use with this account. Make sure Mail is checked and click Done

To update your password:

  1. Open the Mail application
  2. In the top left corner of your screen, click Mail
  3. Click Preferences...
  4. A new window will appear. Click Accounts at the top of this window
  5. Click your UOregon Exchange/UOmail account on the left hand side
  6. Click the Server Settings tab towards the top of this window
  7. Clear the Password field and enter in your current Duck ID password
  8. In the bottom right corner of this window, click Save
