Setting Up Email: Android Mail Application

Depending on which version of the Gmail or Samsung Mail app you are using, instructions may vary slightly. Our guide follows the most recent version of the Gmail and Samsung Mail application(s). As a result, updating your app before proceeding may make our process easier to follow.

UOmail & Exchange

  1. Open the Gmail or Samsung Mail app.
  2. If you already have an account set up, tap your profile picture in the top right corner. Otherwise, select Add Account and skip to step four.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Select Exchange and Office 365. A new window will appear.
    • Users using the Samsung Mail application may see separate options for Exchange or Office 365. Please select the Office 365 option if they are separate. 
  5. Enter your full email address and tap Next or Sign In.
  6. Type in your email password, which is the same as your Duck ID password. Tap Next. 
  7. Choose an account name. This is only for you so you can name it whatever you like. By default it will be your email address, then tap Done.
  8. By default, emails are only synced from up to one week ago. If you want to sync emails from further back, please follow the "Updating Sync Settings" instructions.

Updating Sync Settings

  1. Open the Settings app.  
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. Select your university email account.
  4. Tap Account settings.
  5. Select your university email account from the sidebar.
  6. Tap Sync emails from:
  7. Tap how far back you'd like to sync emails from

Updating the Password

  1. Open the Settings app.  
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. Select your university email account.
  4. Tap Account settings.
  5. Select your university email account from the sidebar.
  6. Tap Incoming settings
  7. In the Password field, delete the existing password and enter in your new one.
  8. Tap Done.

Webmail

  1. Open the Gmail or Samsung Mail app.
  2. If you already have an account set up, tap your profile picture in the top right corner. Otherwise, select Add Account and skip to step four.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Click Other. A new window will appear.
  5. Enter your full email address and tap Next.
  6. Choose Personal (IMAP) for the account type.
  7. Type in your email password, which is the same as your Duck ID password. Tap Next. 
  8. Under Incoming server settings, fill out the following information, then tap Next:
    •      Username will be your Duck ID (your e-mail address without the @uoregon.edu).
    •      Password will be your Duck ID password
    •      Server needs to be imap.uoregon.edu
    •      Port needs to be set to 993
    •      Security type needs to be set to SSL/TLS
  9. Under Outgoing Server Settings, fill out the following information, then tap Next:     
    • Username will be your Duck ID (your e-mail address without the @uoregon.edu).
    • Password will be your Duck ID password.
    • SMTP server needs to be smtp.uoregon.edu
    • Port needs to be set to 587
    • Security type needs to be set to STARTTLS
  10. Choose how frequently your mail syncs, whether you want notifications, whether you want your emails to sync, and whether you want attachments to automatically download when connected to Wi-Fi. Then click Next.
  11. Make sure your name is correct and click Next.
  12. Push the home button and go to the Mail app.
  13. Send a test email to yourself. If you are able to send and receive the email then everything was set up correctly.

Updating the Password

  1. Open the Settings app.  
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. Select your university email account.
  4. Tap Account settings.
  5. Select your university email account from the sidebar.
  6. Tap Incoming settings
  7. In the Password field, delete the existing password and enter in your new one.
  8. Tap Done.
  9. Tap Outgoing settings
  10. In the Password field, delete the existing password and enter in your new one.
  11. Tap Done.
