How to Reconnect after Changing Your Duck ID Password

Overview

This article is for any UO-affiliated person after you have updated your Duck ID password

Here are some things that you may need to update to get back up and running.

UO-managed (AD) Computer

If you have an UO-managed Mac and have not yet changed your password, please follow the instructions on the Changing your Duck ID password on an Active Directory bound Mac article.

If your computer is managed by the UO and you log in using Active Directory (AD), the computer will need to update with your new password.

On-Campus

  • Windows: Log out of your computer and log back in using your new password
  • Mac: Submit a ticket for assistance with updating your computer to your new password. In the meantime, you may be able to temporarily use your old password if your new password does not work.

Off-Campus

Windows: Connect to UO VPN.

  1. Use Ctrl-Alt-Delete and choose Lock.
  2. Then unlock your computer using your new password.
  3. Disconnect from UO VPN.

Mac: Submit a ticket for assistance with updating your computer to your new password. In the meantime, you may be able to temporarily use your old password if your new password does not work.

Email

If you use an email client (i.e., Outlook, iOS mail, Android Mail, etc.), you will need to update your stored password. Please see the Setting Up Your Email article to find your client type and instructions on updating your password.

Please note that not updating this in a timely way, particularly on Mac devices could trigger an alert on your account and cause you to be locked out.

Wi-Fi

If you have any devices currently signed into campus Wi-Fi they will need to reconnect with your new password.

If your Wi-Fi does not prompt you for a password, please consult the articles within our UO Secure category page.

File Shares

If prompted for a password, enter your new password. If you are having trouble accessing your file shares, and are not prompted for a password, please submit a File Shares & Mapped Drive Request for help.

Other

Other applications such as Microsoft 365 and Adobe may prompt you for your new password. You will also need to update any passwords you have saved in your browser.
