Ways to access 1Password
1Password can be accessed in the following ways. Please see Installing and Accessing 1Password for more information.
Importing your existing passwords
You can transfer data from other password managers (e.g., LastPass, KeePass) or browsers into 1Password.
Please Note: You should only store UO related items in your 1Password for Business account. Do not import personal passwords to your employee account.

Vaults
What are vaults? Vaults are like folders that help you organize your passwords and other items.
Note: Do not store personal items in your University of Oregon 1Password account.
Types of Vaults
Employee Vault: Employee vaults are for storing your personal business-related passwords. This could include logins to UO provided services, logins to professional organizations, building access codes, or any other job-related login that only you should know. Items in this vault are private and cannot be accessed or shared with other employees.
Please note: Items in this vault cannot be recovered if you lose access to your 1Password account.
Shared Vaults: Shared vaults are for items you would like to share with your department, team, or that may be needed by your colleagues after you leave the UO – even if you are not sharing it now. Shared Vaults might include social media passwords, passcodes to secure locations used by your team, logins to software or cloud services shared by your team, product or license keys to purchased items, account numbers, or any other secure items your team may need.
You can create multiple shared vaults for specific purposes – so you can share with just those that need the information.
Free family account for employees
As a 1Password for Business user, you’re eligible for a free 1Password Family account. These accounts are separate from your university account and none of the items in them are available to University of Oregon. Family accounts can be used to manage personal and household passwords securely, and to share with your family members.

About family accounts
- Use for non-UO related passwords.
- Includes access for up to five people.
- The free membership remains active as long as it’s linked to your University of Oregon account.
- If you leave the University of Oregon, you can unlink the family account, add a payment method, and continue using it. More information on how to keep your family account.
Warning! Keep your emergency recovery kit safe. If you are locked out of your family account, we cannot help you get back in.
