Ways to access 1Password
1Password can be accessed in the following ways. Please visit Installing and Accessing 1Password for more information.
Importing your existing passwords
You can transfer data into 1Password from other password managers (such as LastPass or KeePass) and from browsers.
Please Note: You should only store UO-related items in your 1Password for Business account. Don’t import personal passwords into your employee 1Password account. (
Use your free family account for that.)

Vaults
What are vaults?
Vaults are like folders that help you organize your passwords and other items.
Note: Don't store personal items in your UO employee 1Password account.
Types of Vaults
- Employee vaults
- Your employee vault is for storing your individual UO business-related passwords.
- That might include logins to UO-provided services, logins to professional organizations, building access codes, or any other job-related login information that only you should know.
- Items in this vault are private and can't be accessed or shared with other employees.
- Please note: Items in this vault can't be recovered if you lose access to your 1Password account.
- Shared vaults
- Shared vaults are for items you'd like to share with your team or department, or that may be needed by your colleagues or successor after you leave the UO.
- That might include social media passwords, passcodes to secure locations used by your team, logins to software or cloud services shared by your team, product or license keys to purchased items, account numbers, or any other secure items your team may need now or in the future.
- Learn more about creating and managing shared vaults in 1Password.
You can create multiple shared vaults for specific purposes, so you can share items with only those people who need the information.
Free family accounts for employees
As a 1Password for Business user, you’re eligible for a free 1Password Family account. These accounts are separate from your university account. None of the items in your family account are available to UO staff. Family accounts can be used to manage personal and household passwords securely, and to share with your family members.
