Setting up an HOTP token for Duo

Overview

Duo, our Two-Step Login service, can be configured to use a HMAC-based One-Time Password (HOTP) token instead of Duo Push, Duo Mobile, or a Duo token.

Prerequisites

1. A token capable of generating HMAC-based One-Time Passwords (HOTP).
2. A computer to configure a token with (requirements vary by token manufacturer).

Instructions

1. Collect the following information from the setup process of your HOTP token (process varies by token manufacturer).
   • Serial number
   • Secret Identity
   • Counter
   • Number of digits (six or eight)
2. Navigate to the Two-Step Login service and Create a Ticket.
3. Select HOTP hardware token registration.
4. Select the number of digits your token uses.
5. Enter the serial number, secret identity and counter you saved before into the appropriate fields.
6. Click Request to submit your request.
7. You will be notified by email when your key has been applied to your account.
