Screensaver not staying on despite correct settings (macOS)

Issue

Mac screen shuts off within seconds after locking the device even though the screen lock display shutoff setting is set to Never.

Environment

UO-owned and managed Mac computer

Non-managed computers will not experience this problem

Description

The screen will shut off after a few seconds after locking the screen. The customer would like the screensaver to remain on.

Resolution

There is no fix for this.

As of macOS Sonoma, Apple has broken the screen shutoff setting from working and preventing the screen lock setting from being changed to shorter than our policy setting.

  • The screen lock display turnoff setting will not apply if you manually lock the screen.
  • If you wait for the screen to lock on it's own with the UO policy set setting of 30 minutes, then the screen lock display turnoff setting will apply and the screen saver will appear.
  • Also, you cannot change screen lock timer to be shorter than our policy requirement of 30 minutes. So you cannot get it to lock on its own sooner.
