Overview

All UOmail users should have a folder labeled "Junk Email" in their mailbox. If messages are flagged as spam, they will be automatically routed to the "Junk Email" folder. Messages in the "Junk Email" folder will be permanently deleted after 30 days.

Can I prevent a sender or domain from being marked as Junk Email?

Yes. You can add specific email addresses and domains to your Safe Senders list.

Can I block a sender?

Yes. You can block messages from a particular sender by adding their email addresses or domain names to the Blocked Senders List.

I don't see my Junk Email Folder in Mac Mail.

Some versions of Mac Mail hide the Junk Email folder by default. To display the folder, do the following:

  • Open Mac Mail
  • Click Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail
  • Click the Junk Mail Behaviors tab
  • Click Enable junk mail filtering

I don't see the a message in my Inbox or Junk Email Folder.

Inbound email is routed through the university's Proofpoint mail filtering system before it arrives in the UOmail system. In rare cases, the Proofpoint system will quarantine messages, resulting in their not being delivered. For more information on how to view and manage your Proofpoint quarantine, see Spam Filtering General Information.
