macOS Recovery is Locked

Issue

The incorrect password was entered too many times on the macOS login screen and the device went to a Recovery is locked screen, indicating that a password known only by a system administrator was necessary to proceed.

Hello,

I finally got around to setting up the computer and it requires an admin login, and says I’m locked out.

Resolution

  1. Contact your Department and Unit IT Support, as they can look up and enter the necessary recovery key.
  2. Once done, they can log in with the local admin account and help reset the unknown user password.
