This article is designed to guide UO faculty and staff through a list of campus file servers (also known as network file shares) as well as how to connect to them.
To access file servers from off-campus, you will need to use the UO VPN.

How do I connect to a file server using a Windows computer?
Follow the instructions below to connect to a server using a computer running Windows. Examples use the files.uoregon.edu server and the bbogus user account:
- Open File Explorer.
- In the address bar, enter the server name in the following format with backslashes ( \ ) and press enter:
- Example: \\files.uoregon.edu\
- If prompted for your credentials, enter AD\ followed by your Duck ID in the User name field.
- Enter your Duck ID password in the Password field.
- Click OK.
- You should now see a list of shared folders on the server.
- You are now able to access your files stored on the server.
Note: If you are working on a public computer, make sure to log out of Windows so that the next person who sits at the computer cannot access your files.
How do I connect to a file server using a Mac?
Follow the instructions below to connect to a server using a computer running macOS. Examples use the files.uoregon.edu server and the bbogus user account:
- Open the Finder application.
- From the Go menu at the top of the screen, select Connect to Server...
- In the Connect to Server window, enter the protocol followed by the server name.
- Example: smb://files.uoregon.edu
- For most servers, you will use the smb:// protocol.
- Enter your Duck ID user name in the Name field.
- Enter your Duck ID password in the Password field.
- Click Connect.
- In the new window that appears, select the shared folder to that you wish to connect.
- Click OK.
- The folder should open in a new window in your foreground.
- You are now able to access your files stored on the server.
Note: If you are working on a public computer, make sure to disconnect (drag drive icon into Trash) or Eject (secondary-click and select Eject) from the share so that the next person who sits at the computer cannot access your files.
