What is a Safe Sender?

Sometimes important emails are mistakenly marked as junk or spam. To prevent this from happening, you can create a safe sender list.  Email addresses and domain names in the safe senders list are never treated as junk email, regardless of the content of the message.

Webmail

  1. Go to the website proofpoint.uoregon.edu
  2. Login using your Duck ID (email address without @uoregon.edu) and your Duck ID password
  3. In the bottom left corner, click on the Lists tab
  4. In the same column on the left side of the screen, click Safe Senders List
  5. Once this highlights, click the New button that is directly to the right of the University of Oregon logo in the top right corner of the page
  6. In the resulting text entry field, either put in the full address (yourduckid@uoregon.edu) or the Internet domain (uoregon.edu). Opening the full domain will allow any email from that domain through the spam filter; be certain that this is something you want.
  7. Once you have entered in the address or domain, click the Save button and log out.

Exchange

  1. Sign in to Outlook Web App by navigating to https://outlook.uoregon.edu in a web browser.
  2. At the top of the page, select Settings > Options.
  3. Select Block or allow
  4. To add an entry to safe senders and recipients, enter the email address or domain that you want to block in the Enter a sender or domain here box, and then press Enter or select the add + icon next to the text box.
  5. You an optionally select the Trust email from my contacts check box to allow all messages from anyone in your contacts.
  6. Select Save to save your changes.

UOmail

  1. Go to https://uomail.uoregon.edu
  2. Log in with your full email and password.
  3. In the top right corner, click on the gear icon ⚙ (settings).
  4. Find and click View all Outlook settings.
  5. Go to Junk email from the navigation bar.
  6. Under Safe senders and domains click +Add.
  7. Type in either the full email address (yourduckid@uoregon.edu) or just the domain of the sender (@uoregon.edu) to allow all emails from that domain.
  8. Press the Enter key to submit the email address or domain to allow.
    • You can edit the email address or domain at any time by clicking on the Pencil icon.
    • You can delete an email address or domain by clicking the Trash can icon.
  9. Click the Save button at the top to save your changes.
  10. click the X to exit back to your mailbox.

Proofpoint

  1. Go to the website proofpoint.uoregon.edu
  2. Login using your Duck ID (email address without @uoregon.edu) and your Duck ID password
