Adding an Email Address to Your Safe Sender List

What is a safe sender?

Sometimes important emails are mistakenly marked as junk or spam. To prevent this from happening, you can create a safe sender list. Email addresses and domain names in the safe senders list are never treated as junk email, regardless of the content of the message.

This article contains instructions for:

If you aren't sure which email system you are on, please see All About Email at UO.

Which method should I use?

  • Use the UOmail method if you use the Outlook application or Outlook for the web.
  • Use the Proofpoint method if you access your email from the Outlook application or Outlook for the web or another application (i.e., Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) as it is enabled for all campus email traffic.

UOmail

  5. Click Mail.
  6. Go to Junk email.
  7. Under Safe senders and domains, click +Add.
  8. Type in either the full email address (yourduckid@uoregon.edu) or just the domain of the sender (e.g., uoregon.edu) to allow all emails from that domain.
  9. Press the Enter key to submit the email address or domain to allow.
    • You can edit the email address or domain at any time by clicking on the Pencil icon.

Proofpoint

  1. Go to the UO Proofpoint website.

  5. Once this highlights, click the New button that is directly to the right of the University of Oregon logo in the top-left corner of the page.
  6. In the resulting text entry field, either put in the full address (yourduckid@uoregon.edu) or the Internet domain (e.g., uoregon.edu). Opening the full domain will allow any email. from that domain through the spam filter; be certain that this is something you want.
