Answer

The amount of time you can access your email account after leaving the university depends on your affiliation.

Students

Students retain direct login access to their UOmail for one year after their last term of eligibility to enroll. For specific details, please refer to Technology Access Timelines.

Employees

Employees and other affiliates like courtesy appointment holders are not eligible to keep their UO email account indefinitely. However, faculty automatically receive extended email access that lasts for a defined period of time after their contract ends.

For specific details, please refer to Technology Access Timelines.

Retirees

Lifelong direct login access to UO email accounts is automatically granted to employees who receive retired status through Human Resources. This also includes emerit faculty. There may be an email service interruption of up to one week when your account gets updated to retired status.

Access continues through Outlook on the web at https://uomail.uoregon.edu. Other supported access methods include Windows Mail, macOS Mail, and various smartphone/tablet apps. More information about all of these methods is available in our UOmail Setup by Operating System/Platform area.

Please Note:  Installed Microsoft 365 desktop applications are not included with retiree access. This means you will not be able to use your UO account with the Outlook program installed on your computer unless you have a personal Microsoft 365 subscription. Retirees are eligible to purchase this subscription with a 30% discount (subject to change) using their UO email address through the Microsoft Workplace Discount Program.
