Overview
This article discusses Cognos report ownership and owner responsibilities.
Report ownership
All Cognos reports have an owner; the report owner can be found in the Details pane (Figure 1), and includes the report name (a), owner of the report (b), and the date the report was created and last modified.
The Details pane can be accessed by clicking on the three dots to the right of the report name and selecting Details from the list of options or by checking the box next to the name of the report and selecting the Details option that appears at the top of the list of reports.

Responsibilities
A report owner serves as the lead contact and person responsible for the report. Usually, this is the person most familiar with the report or the supervisor of the group using the report.
- Responsibilities include approving edits to the report, managing access to the report, and providing support to others using the report.
- Additional responsibilities may also include making edits to the report.
- The enterprise reports are owned and managed by the IDR Team and sponsored by data stewards.
- All reports that are not enterprise reports are considered custom and are owned by individuals.
Please Note: It is advised to regularly review the ownership of reports and update as needed.
How to take ownership of a report
New report
When you create a new report, whether it is a copy of an existing report with custom modifications, or an entirely new report, you are automatically assigned ownership.
Existing report
To take ownership of an existing report, you need to be granted full access by an account administrator or the existing report owner.
- Once you have full access, you can take ownership by navigating to the report,
- Selecting the three dots to the right of the report,
- Selecting the Take ownership option (Figure 2) from the action menu.
If Take ownership is not listed in the menu, you do not have the correct permissions to own the report. Contact the current report owner to change your access.
If the current owner is no longer with the university, submit a ticket to the IDR team through the UO Service Portal.
