How instructors can create (or edit) a Voiceboard for speaking practice

Overview

Making speaking practice easy to create and achieve in or out of class has always been a priority for ANVILL. ANVILL's voiceboard (VB) activities are thus designed to allow instructors to create speech-based discussions online with students.

This page tells instructors how to create or edit a VB post in ANVILL in Canvas. For more information on what a VB is, please read the Introduction to Voiceboards for Instructors article.

How to Create a VB Post

  1. Create a new module or assignment in Canvas as you normally would.
  2. Click the + to open the drop-down Add Menu then, then choose the External Tool and select ANVILL from the list.

  3. Open ANVILL. It will fill your Canvas page
  4. Click + ADD CONTENT
  5. Select the Voiceboard icon in the Content menu

  6. Give your VB a title, create an activity prompt for your VB, and add any media (including a personal recording if desired).

  7. To add a media prompt for the VB, click on + ADD MEDIA
  8. Select how you want students to respond to your prompt: checking all the boxes means they can use any of the below ones listed. You can also change privacy settings to include just the teacher and student or the whole class.

  9. Your VB is ready to go! Click the green checkmark to save or the green X mark to cancel.  
  10. To share this lesson with students, click the green gear icon. Choose Share, and then select the appropriate choices.

How to Edit a VB Post

  1. Click on the green pencil icon at the top of your VB.

  2. Click Edit in the menu that pops open.
  3. Make your desired changes.
  4. When finished, and ready to save then post your work, simply click the green checkmark icon.
