Transition an existing Zoom account to UO's Zoom service

Introduction

Sometime on Monday, March 23, 2020, or shortly thereafter, students and employees who have existing accounts with zoom.us that are associated with their @uoregon.edu email address will be prompted to choose one of the following when they log into their existing account:

  • Transition your non-enterprise Zoom account to the UO's enterprise Zoom environment, or...
  • Change the email address associated with your non-enterprise Zoom account to keep it separate from the UO Zoom environment.

Note that existing Zoom accounts associated with a UO role account are not eligible for transfer to the UO's Zoom environment.

You will be required to make this choice before you can access your Zoom account. To transition your account or change the email address associated with your non-enterprise account, follow the appropriate instructions below.

Transitioning Your Account

When you transition an existing Zoom account associated with your @uoregon.edu email address to the UO Zoom environment, you will be provided a Zoom license at no cost. UO employees will get a Pro license and students will get a Basic license.

  1. Sign in to your existing account at either https://zoom.us, in the Zoom desktop client, or in the Zoom mobile application.
Note: If you sign in using the desktop client or mobile application, you must choose the Sign in with SSO or SSO option -- otherwise, you may be temporarily assigned a Basic Zoom account for the first business day after transitioning the account:

Sign into the Desktop application using the "SSO" option.Sign into the mobile app using the SSO option.

  2. After successfully signing in, you will be prompted to either:
    • Join the Account — Transition the account to the UO Zoom environment, or...
    • Change Email Address — Update the email address associated with the account to keep it separate from the UO Zoom environment
  3. Choose Join the Account and click Continue.
  4. If your existing Zoom account was a paid account with time remaining on the subscription, the next page will allow you to choose a reimbursement option to refund the unused time.
    • Choose your preferred reimbursement method and click Continue.
    • Once the refund request has been submitted, a confirmation page will appear. You will be notified via email when the refund balance is ready, but can begin using Zoom as usual.
    • Click Go to My Account to continue using Zoom.
  5. If your existing Zoom account was a free account, you will only see the confirmation page. Click Sign In to Profile Page to continue using Zoom.

Your Zoom account is now successfully transitioned to the UO Zoom environment! Note that the way you log in will now change. Follow the Signing into Zoom steps at Getting Started with Zoom.

Changing Your Email Address

If you do not wish to transition your existing Zoom account and would rather keep it separate from the UO environment, you will need to change the email address associated with the account.

  1. Sign in to your existing account at either https://zoom.us or in the Zoom desktop client.
  2. After successfully signing in, you will be prompted to either:
    • Join the Account — Transition the account to the UO Zoom environment, or...
    • Change Email Address — Update the email address associated with the account to keep it separate from the UO Zoom environment
  3. Choose Change Email Address and click Continue.
  4. On the next page, fill out the required fields and click Save.
  5. A confirmation email will be sent to the new email address provided on the previous page.
  6. Open the confirmation email and click Confirm Change.
  7. A page will open in your browser prompting you to choose a new password. Enter the new password (twice to confirm) and click Submit.
  8. A confirmation page will appear. Click Sign in Now to access your account.

Your existing Zoom account has now been associated with a different email address than your @uoregon.edu email. You can continue using the account by signing in with the new email address and password online at https://zoom.us or in the Zoom desktop client.

In addition, you can now use UO's enterprise Zoom service by following the Signing into Zoom steps at Getting Started with Zoom.
