Question

How do I connect to UO Secure on my Ubuntu devices?

Solution

Configuring your device for UO Secure

Tip: You need to connect to the UO Guest wireless network if you are on campus to get UO Secure set up. But you can set up your devices from any network — even before you come to campus!
  1. Visit wifi.uoregon.edu and select Get connected
  2. Select JoinNow
  3. Your computer will download an installer named SecureW2_JoinNow.run
  4. Open your terminal and navigate to your Downloads folder.
  5. Run the installer with sh ./SecureW2_JoinNow.run
  6. The SecureW2 application will then post:
    1. Verification successful
    2. We are now launching a separate dialog to continue sign-in at your account provider website.
    3. When you have successfully signed-in, the application will continue.
    4. When prompted Next/Cancel? [Next] on screen, there will be no other prompt to indicate this, but, press Enter to continue.
  7. A new browser window will open showing the Entra ID login screen. Use your full UO email address and password to sign-in. You may also be prompted for your two-step login as well.
  8. Return to your Terminal. Your browser window may minimize for you. Wait while the program configures.
  9. When completed, you will see Joined... in your terminal.
  10. The program will automatically connect you to UO Secure. If it doesn't, select the Wi-Fi icon on your top bar once more, and try reconnecting to UO Secure.
Getting an error about "network not in range" when you finish this process?
  • Off campus: This is normal, and your device should connect automatically when you come to campus. (The error message may also say your password may be incorrect—which may be true if you get to campus and your device doesn't connect automatically; see below.)
  • On campusYour password is likely incorrect. You may need to start the process over again, or visit the Technology Service Desk for help.
