Overview
Depending on your needs, there are various ways to facilitate guest access to technology resources at the University of Oregon.
- Available without a Duck ID account:

Wi-Fi Access
UO Guest Wi-Fi
- Anyone visiting UO is welcome to connect to the UO Guest network for Wi-Fi access. Please note restrictions at athletic venues.

eduroam
- Available to visitors from other eduroam member institutions while at UO. Requires their home institution's credentials to login. See Connecting to the eduroam Network.
Collaboration Services
For these collaborations, no Duck ID account is required.

UO Blogs
- Access to UO Blogs by a guest must be requested by a sponsor. Instructions for requesting a guest login can be found at UO Blogs: Guest Policy.
Zoom
- By default, participants don't have to be logged in to Zoom to join an existing meeting. All they need is the link or meeting ID (and passcode, if you've set one).
- If you plan to invite guests to Zoom, please review best practices for Preventing Zoombombing.
- Individuals expected to create new Zoom meetings in the UO's zoom tenant will need an unpaid appointment (see below).
Unpaid Appointments
For guests that need a Duck ID login, email, server access, Canvas access, fully-licensed versions of software, or access to student or financial data, an unpaid appointment will likely be required. Unpaid appointment holders are issued a UO ID number (95#) and claim a Duck ID account similar to paid employees, though the access available to their Duck ID accounts may vary as described below.
Associate Appointment
Associates are a type of unpaid appointment. These are generally people doing administrative work with the UO, but who are not paid employees. If you have questions about the Associate appointment, you can contact Human Resources Operations with specific questions.
Note: Beginning December 2022, agency based temporary employees who require Banner access are eligible for access by following the standard Associate process. Please see the

Campus Access & Support Request
Available Access
- For standard campus wide services, see the Technology Access Timelines page under Campus Associate.
- Associates are also eligible for various business applications with approval.

Approval Requirements
- The hosting department must sponsor the appointment.

Courtesy Appointment
Courtesy appointments are also a type of unpaid appointment. These are academic in nature, provide additional access, and require additional approvals. Approval Requirements
- The hosting department must sponsor the appointment.
- Approval is granted by UO Human Resources and the Provost's Office
Note: Some courtesy appointments may require additional approvals.
Process
- The hosting department's HR representative should follow the instructions provided by Human Resources on the Courtesy, Campus Associate, and other Unpaid Appointments article.
- Once the appointment is in place, the user will be able to claim their Duck ID the next day.
- Access to additional resources such as Business Applications (Banner, Appworx, IDR, etc.) will follow the standard approval process.
Sponsored Accounts
Sponsored Accounts should be used for people that will only need access for a maximum of 200 days.
These accounts are for individuals involved in university-related activities but who don't have an affiliation. Examples include practicum supervisors, guest lecturers, consultants, contractors, visiting scholars, and vendors. Use of computing resources must be for UO business or academic purposes. Sponsored accounts have an initial duration of 100 days and may be receive a one-time renewal of 100 days. The account is permanently terminated after 200 days, and if continued access is needed, a new Duck ID will be issued after requesting an associate or courtesy appointment.

Requirements
- Sponsored accounts must be requested by faculty or staff.
- Sponsored accounts must be approved by the President, Provost, Dean, Vice Provost, Vice President, Associate Vice President, or one of their designees.
