Installing the UO VPN Software (iOS)

Question

How do I install the UO VPN software on my iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad)?

Solution

Initial setup

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Search for and download Cisco Secure Client (also known as AnyConnect VPN).
    • Publisher: Cisco Systems, Inc.

  3. Once download is complete, open the AnyConnect app.
  4. In the Home tab, click Connections.
  5. Select Add VPN Connection...
  6. For the Server Address, enter uovpn.uoregon.edu
    • You can put whatever you want in the Description box.
  7. Select Save.
    • If you see a message stating "'AnyConnect' Would Like to Add VPN Configurations," click Allow, then enter your device's passcode if prompted. 
  8. You should now see the VPN listed in Connections.

How to connect to the UO VPN

  1. Tap the slider next to AnyConnect VPN, then click Continue.
  2. You will now be taken to a Microsoft login page. Enter your university email address and password, then sign in with DUO.
  3. If you connected successfully, you will see a the letters VPN near the wi-fi symbol at top of your display.

How to disconnect from UO VPN

  1. Open AnyConnect.
  2. Tap the slider next to VPN and tap Continue to disable it.
    • To reconnect in the future, simply tap this VPN slider again.
  3. You will then be disconnected from the VPN. You should no longer see a VPN symbol at the top of your display.

System Requirements

This VPN software is compatible with any Apple mobile device (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) running iOS 10 or newer. All iOS users need to download AnyConnect to access UO VPN.
