Information
When I follow the File Server instructions on a Mac or on my student-owned Windows computer, my computer doesn't ask me for a password. How do I fix this?
(macOS): Your computer is already connected to AAAFILESERVER and you will have to disconnect, then reconnect.
- Open a new Finder window (click on the Desktop, open the Macintosh HD)
- Find AAAFILESERVER on the left-hand side of the window
- Find the eject button to the right of it (looks like an arrow with a line beneath it)
- Click that button to disconnect the server.
- Connect to AAAFILESERVER using the above instructions for Mac.
(macOS, if you tried the above answer and AAAFILESERVER is not in the Finder window): Your computer may have a saved password stored for AAAFILESERVER.
- Open a new Finder window (click on the Desktop, open the Macintosh HD)
- Click on the Go menu at the top of the screen and choose Utilities.
- Double-click Keychain Access.
- In Keychain Access, go to the Category column and click Passwords.
- In the main column, click aaafileserver.
- Go to the Edit menu and select Delete.
- You will be asked to confirm whether you want to delete the password. Click the Delete button to confirm deletion.
- Repeat the deletion steps for all aaafileserver entries in the main column.
- Quit Keychain Access.
- Connect to AAAFILESERVER using the above instructions for Mac.
(Windows): If you are using your own student-owned computer, Windows is probably using saved login information. Here's how to remove it:
- Click the Start menu and select Control Panel
- Open User Accounts and click your user
- In the top left corner, click Manage my network passwords or Manage credentials.
- Select each entry that says aaafileserver and click Remove
- Restart your computer
- Connect to AAAFILESERVER with the instructions above.
When I log in, I see the error message, Your Password needs to be changed. There was an error connecting to the server. Check the server name or IP address and try again. If you are unable to resolve the problem, contact your system administrator.
This error message is generally valid. You most likely need to change your Duck ID password.
Either:
- Visit a Windows computer in a UO computer lab
- Log in to the Windows computer as ad\username , where username is your Duck ID user name, and use your Duck ID password.
- A dialog should come up automatically to assist you with changing your password.
- Log out of the Windows lab computer
Or
- Go to the Duck ID Self-Service page
- Log in as your Duck ID.
- Follow the automated process to change your password, or click the Change Password option.
I followed the instructions, and I put in my user name and password, but I get a message that they are incorrect.
It is possible that your UO Windows credentials need to be reset. Here's how to check them:
- Visit a Windows computer in a UO computer lab.
- Log in to the Windows computer as ad\username, where username is your Duck ID, and use your Duck ID password.
- If you are able to log in, then connecting to the aaafileserver from your computer should work fine.
- If you are unable to log in to Windows with these credentials, or if you are able to log in but you still can't connect to the aaafileserver, visit the USS-Academic North service desk in 124 Lawrence Hall in order to get this problem fixed.
I get Login Failure. The target account name is invalid when I try to log in. What do I do!?
On a Windows computer, when you try to connect to \\aaafileserver, you get an error message that says:
\\AAAFILESERVER is not accessible. You might not have permission to access this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Login Failure. The target account name is invalid.
In the run box, type in \\aaafileserver.ad.uoregon.edu
