Automatic File Synchronization with a SharePoint Site

Overview

Learn how to configure automatic file synchronization with a SharePoint site using the Microsoft OneDrive sync client.

Prerequisites

You will need the Microsoft OneDrive Sync client installed on your computer as well as access to a SharePoint site. Note that file synchronization with SharePoint uses the OneDrive sync application.

Install the Microsoft OneDrive Sync application from one of the links below, or if OneDrive is already installed, you can skip to the steps listed in the Configuring SharePoint File Synchronization section.

Upon installation, run the OneDrive synchronization app then sign in with your Duck ID. By default, the OneDrive sync app will automatically start when you sign in to your computer.

Configuring SharePoint file synchronization

  1. From a web browser go to the SharePoint site you want to synchronize files from by signing in to office.uoregon.edu.
  2. Select the waffle icon in the upper-left corner of the window, then choose SharePoint.
  3. You will see a listing of SharePoint sites you have access to. Select the site you want to synchronize files from.
  4. At the top of the SharePoint site window that appears, select the Documents link. A listing of folders and files will appear.
    1. For OneDrive to synchronize from SharePoint you will need to add a shortcut for any folders or files that should be automatically synced.
  5. Select a folder or file, then select the Add shortcut to OneDrive option near the top of the window.
    1. Once the shortcut is added, the OneDrive sync app will synchronize the selected folder or file.
    2. Note that if you create a link to a folder, all subfolders and files within that folder will be synced.

Repeat the steps above for any additional folders or files from SharePoint you would like to synchronize.
