This article answers to frequently asked questions about Community Canvas at the University of Oregon.

What is Community Canvas? 

Community Canvas (community.uoregon.edu) is a separate instance of Canvas at UO, implemented in 2020.

  • The Community Canvas environment is intended for courses not directly related to CRN instruction.
  • UO's main, instructional Canvas environment (canvas.uoregon.edu) is intended for CRN instruction courses.
  • Community Canvas includes all regular Canvas features, including Panopto and Zoom integrations. 

How can I access Community Canvas?

Go to the Community Canvas site and login with your Duck ID.

What are the common use cases? 

Examples include: 

  • Faculty/staff Canvas training 
  • Orientation sites
  • Sites for students sharing the same major
  • Departmental collaborations 
  • Workshops 
  • Programs
  • Events 

Who can request a new course in Community Canvas?

UO faculty/staff

How can I request a new course in Community Canvas?

You need to submit a ticket from the Canvas Support Services page. When you create a request, select Non-CRN course, then Community Non-CRN course.

Note: Requests should be submitted at least two weeks ahead of the time you need the course.
