HyFlex Classroom Instructions

Overview

This article is designed to provide an overview on how to configure and operate the two Hybrid-Flexible (HyFlex) classroom types which have been added to existing General Pool and Joint Controlled classrooms scheduled by the Office of the Registrar for Fall 2020. The HyFlex Classrooms are designed to support synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning depending on the instructor's delivery preferences.

Please also see the embedded video tutorials for both types of HyFlex classrooms.

Information

The naming convention is HyFlex 1 Classroom and HyFlex 2 Classroom to indicate which equipment system will be utilized by the instructor.

The HyFlex 1 Classroom

The HyFlex Classroom 1 configuration features the following components (and as seen in the image above unless otherwise noted):

  • Crestron Touch Panel
  • Logitech MEETUP Camera with a built-in microphone (with a USB connection)
  • Document Camera (with a USB connection)
  • Camera Remote
  • An HDMI cable (not pictured)

Configuring the MEETUP camera with Zoom

  • At the Crestron Touch Panel turn on the room system and select HDMI. Connect your device with the HDMI cable at the teaching station in order to use room speakers.
  • Note some Crestron Touch Panels are wall mounted near the teaching station.
  • Connect either labeled USB cable Camera and Mic or Doc Cam to your computer. You may also use both at same time.
    • Note: You cannot use a USB hub with the configuration.
  • Open Zoom
  • Select the camera in Zoom settings and choose the Logitech MEETUP (USB) option.
  • Select the microphone in Zoom settings and choose the Echo Cancelling Speakerphone Logitech MEETUP option.
  • Select the speaker in Zoom settings and choose the Crestron Intel(R) Display Audio in order to hear audio through room speakers.

Use the square remote control attached to the teaching station to adjust the camera. In most instances, you will be able to view the whiteboard or blackboard and use those behind you.

Note: You cannot play Blu-ray/DVD over Zoom due to copyright blocks though you can play YouTube videos.

If you would like to record your Zoom session, see Zoom: How to Record Meetings for more information.

How to use the document camera with Zoom

  • Ensure that the USB cable labeled Doc Cam is plugged into your computer.
  • To share the Document Camera content, go to Zoom settings Share Screen and select Advanced.
  • Choose select content from Second Camera (which is the Document Camera).
  • Note: After turning on the Document Camera and connecting your device to the USB cable, it needs to initialize fully, which may take about 45 seconds. Your device will need to recognize it; expect a delay.

Displaying your computer screen in the classroom

If you wish to display your laptop through the installed digital data projector or flat screen, connect your device with the HDMI cable at the teaching station.
