Use this form to make an appointment to view materials or request digitization services from the Aerial Photography Collection.

How to Request Research

To request support, click Request Research (top right of the page) and provide the following required information.

  1. Name
  2. Email address
  3. Billing Address
  4. City/Town
  5. State/Province
  6. Zip/Postal Code
  7. Project Code (if your project does not have a project code, please create your own)
  8. Area of Interest Description (Street address, township/range/section, lat/long or other description)
  9. Resolution
  10. Format
  11. Delivery method
  12. Is this a rush order?
  13. Map of the site (one file; gif, jpg, jpeg, or png; 2 MB limit) (optional, but a $10 fee may be added if you do not provide a map.)

If you would like to make an appointment to view the materials on premises, please indicate this in the "Special Instructions" section. 

Once you submit a request, you should receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please submit another request with the correct email address.

Availability and Access

You can expect a response to your request within 3 to 4 business days.

Academic Research Requests

Current students, faculty, and staff at the University of Oregon can request aerial photography for teaching or research related to their work at the institution.

  • Request photos 3 to 4 business days in advance of when you need them. Let us know if you are a remote user unable to visit Knight Library.
  • You will be notified by email when your photographs are available.
  • Unless your area is a small site easily locatable by street address search, submit a map with boundaries of your site.
  • Academic users receive research services for free.
  • Academic users may not place requests on behalf of any other persons not entitled to this free service.
  • Standard academic requests result in 1 photo per decade. Once you have reviewed these photos, please let staff know if you would like more years, if available.

Public Research Requests

Members of the general public and individuals working for private, state, or federal organizations are welcome to request aerial photography for commercial purposes.

  • Public research requests are subject to Research Fees (see below).
  • Typical turnaround is 3 to 4 business days.
  • You will be notified by email when your photographs are available.
  • Please submit a map with boundaries of your site.

Public Requests Fee Overview

  • $35 Setup fee
  • plus $12 per image for an Area of Interest (AOI) of 1 square mile or less.
  • $90 per hour for: special projects, large areas, researching photos/maps for viewing in the library, and estimates.
  • If a request is submitted without a sitemap, a $10 fee will be added for creating the map.
  • A cancellation fee of $35 will apply to orders canceled after 2 business days from submission.
  • Rush Orders: fees double. Images are delivered the next business day. The Aerial Photography Research Service reserves the right to refuse rush orders.

This is a research service. Imagery is delivered for Public Research Requests with a one-time-use license. Prices do not include reproduction or resale rights. You may store your images indefinitely, derive new data from them, and give the photos to your own clients. We understand that copies of the photos are included in environmental assessment reports and other research products. The university is committed to ensuring that all commercial enterprises have equal opportunity to conduct business.
