Installing the VPN software on a Chromebook

Question

How do I install the VPN software on my Chromebook?

Solution

  1. Install the AnyConnect app from the Chrome Web Store here.
  2. Open your status tray menu by selecting the clock in the corner of the screen. Then select VPN.
  3. You will see a new menu. Select the + to the right of Cisco AnyConnect.
  4. The Cisco AnyConnect app should open. Select Add New Connection.
  5. Next give the VPN connection a name (e.g., uovpn), enter the server address uovpn.uoregon.edu and then select Save Changes.
  6. You should now see <your VPN name> (user) in both the AnyConnect app and your VPN menu.

To connect to the VPN

  1. Open the status tray menu by selecting the clock in the corner of the screen, then select VPN.
  2. On the next menu, select the name of the VPN connection.
  3. A login page should appear. Enter your Duck ID and password, then select Submit.

You will now be connected via VPN. When connected, a VPN icon (a key) will appear below your Wi-Fi icon.

To disconnect from VPN

  1. Open the status tray menu by selecting the clock and then select Connected to <your VPN name> (user).
  2. Locate your VPN connection and select Disconnect.
