Installing the UO VPN Software (ChromeOS)

Tags tsd-update
Warning! We have recently discovered that the UO VPN is currently non-functional on newer versions of ChromeOS. If you wish to access VPN-protected services while using a ChromeOS-powered device, you can log into the UO Virtual Lab Service and then use the virtual desktop's web browser as a workaround.

Question

How do I install the UO VPN software on my Chromebook or other Chrome OS device?

Solution

  1. Install the AnyConnect app from the Chrome Web Store page.
  2. Open your quick settings panel by selecting the clock in the corner of the screen. Then select VPN.
  3. You will see a new menu. Select the + to the right of Cisco AnyConnect.
  4. The Cisco AnyConnect app should open. Select Add New Connection.
  5. Next give the VPN connection a name (e.g., uovpn), enter the server address uovpn.uoregon.edu and then select Save Changes.
  6. You should now see <your VPN name> (user) in both the AnyConnect app and your VPN menu.

To connect to the UO VPN

You will now be connected via VPN. When connected, a VPN icon (a key) will appear below your Wi-Fi icon.
