Overview

This page documents our data protection service. This service is available only to UO IT staff.

Supported Backup types

Virtual Machines

• All VMs are backed up by default unless declined by owner.
• This is an agentless process.
• Non-production workloads generally should have backups disabled to reduce service costs.

Databases

• Requires an agent.
• Supported database types:
  • MS SQL
  • Oracle

Physical Servers

• Requires an agent.

NAS file shares

• NAS files share backups have been deprecated. See UO Data Storage Finder.

Default Protection Job details

• Frequency: Daily
• Backup window: 5:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.
• Retention: 30 days
• Primary Destination: Local Cluster
• Secondary Destination: Cloud Storage

Pricing

Exceptions beyond our standards can be requested with the following potential costs outlined below:

• $231/TiB/year ($0.019/GiB/month)
• Annual billing based on allocated capacity on July 1st
• Minimum allocation: 1 TiB per protection group
