This article provides an overview of what our current Data Protection solution supports, protection job details, and pricing information

Overview

IS leverages Cohesity for our enterprise data protection solution. This utilizes both on-premises and cloud storage for backup redundancy. This service is available only to UO IT staff.

Supported Backup types

Virtual Machines

• All VMs are backed up by default unless declined by owner.
• This is an agentless process.
• Non-production workloads generally should have backups disabled to reduce service costs.

Databases

• Requires an agent.
• Supported database types:
  • MS SQL
  • Oracle

Physical Servers

• Requires an agent.

NAS file shares

• NAS files share backups have been deprecated. See UO Data Storage Finder.

Default Protection Job details

• Frequency: Daily
• Backup window: 5pm - 5am
• Retention: 30 days
• Primary Destination: Local Cluster
• Secondary Destination: Cloud Storage

Pricing

Exceptions beyond our standards can be requested with the following potential costs outlined below:

• $231/TiB/year ($0.019/GiB/month)
• Annual billing based on allocated capacity on July 1st
• Minimum allocation: 1 TiB per protection group
