Managing Records

This page presents guidelines for how to systematically create and organize records throughout their life span. Systematic maintenance begins from the time we create records to the time we disposition them — that is, recycle, shred or transfer them to University Archives, depending on their long-term historical value.

Before shredding paper or deleting e-mails, Word documents, PDF or other files or data received or created by the University of Oregon, be sure these are not subject to retention requirements. UO uses an organization-wide Records Retention Schedule (RRS) to guide its recordkeeping.
