Overview
This page explains how to uninstall your current version of Java and then install an older version.
Users of Banner and AppWorx job scheduling may need to revert to an older version of Java if they've installed a new version that's incompatible with those services.
These instructions focus on Java 8.
Information
Step 1: Uninstall current version of Java
- Click on the Finder icon in your dock. image below.
- In the Finder window got to Applications and click on the search bar and type JavaAppletPlugin.plugin.
- In the results right click on JavaAppletPlugin.plugin and select Move to Trash.
- Optional:
- Empty your trash.
- As a further measure for security, open up Safari and follow this short list of instructions.
- Safari > Preferences > Security > Un-check Enable Java
Step 2: Install desired version of Java
- Go to Oracle's Java SE 8 Archive Downloads page and locate the desired version of Java.
- Then, in the Product list, locate the option(s) labeled macOS x64, then select the .dmg file option.
- Example: For Java 8 Update 60, select the jre-8u60-macosx-x64.dmg file.
- After clicking the download link, you will be prompted to sign in with an Oracle Account. If you do not already have an Oracle account follow the instructions below, otherwise continue to step 5.
- Create an account by clicking the Create Account button option.
- After you fill out the required information, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you entered.
- Once you're logged in, the download will occur immediately after following the link.
- Once the download has finished, open up Finder, go to Downloads, and click on the downloaded file and install the desired version of Java 8.
