Question
How do I connect to the College of Design file share (AAA file share) on files.uoregon.edu?
Solution
Note: If you are trying to connect from off-campus, please launch and connect to the
VPN first.
From macOS
- In the Finder, click Go, then click Connect to Server
- In the Connect to Server box, type smb://files.uoregon.edu (without the single quotes).
- Enter your Duck ID and password
- Click Connect.
- In the next window, select the aaa share and click OK.
- The aaa share should open in a new Finder window in your foreground. It is organized into four sub-directories: Departments, Institutes, Research, or Students. Select the one where your destination folder resides.
- If you are working on a public computer, make sure to eject the share or restart the computer when you are done, so that the next person who sits at the computer cannot make changes to your folder.
From Windows
- Windows 7: Go to Start and type \\files.uoregon.edu in the search box, then hit Enter.
- Windows 10: Go to Search and type in \\files.uoregon.edu. A second option is to open Windows Explorer and type in \\files.uoregon.edu in the address bar.
- If you are prompted for a username and password, enter your Duck ID credentials.
- Please note, if this is a non-University owned computer and/or is not joined to the UO AD domain, you may need to put an AD\ in front of your Duck ID, for instance AD\<Duck ID>
- Once connected, Windows Explorer should open. Double-click on the aaa share.
- The aaa share is organized into four sub-directories: Departments, Institutes, Research, or Students. Select the directory where your destination folder resides.
- If you are working on a public computer, make sure to log out or restart when you are done, otherwise, anyone who sits down at the computer can make changes to your folder.
Folder permissions are applied to all shared folders.
