Delay sending email in Outlook

Overview

Learn how to schedule sending an email message for a future time.

The Schedule Send feature is available to UOmail users through the Outlook 365 desktop applications for Windows and macOS, and Outlook on the web.

Windows

Please Note: For this feature to work in the Windows application, Outlook must remain open until the message is sent. If you'd like to schedule send with your computer off, we recommend using Outlook on the web.

Select the title of each accordion panel in order to see its contents.

macOS

When you have completed drafting a message:

  1. Select the icon next to the Send button in the upper-left corner, then select Schedule Send.

  2. A small dialog box will appear. Enter in the desired date and time, then select Send.
    Choose a date and time then select Send.
  3. The message will go to your Drafts folder and it will send the message at your appointed time.

If you decide later that you want to send the message immediately, do the following:

  1. Switch to the Drafts folder.
  2. Open the delayed message. 
  3. Select the Send button.

Outlook on the web

Sign in to UOmail, then draft your message.

When you have completed drafting a message:

  1. Select the small down arrow next to the Send button.
  2. The Schedule Send option will appear.
    Select the Send menu, then Schedule Send
  3. Once Schedule Send is selected, you can choose a default option for a custom time, then select Send.

  4. If you selected Custom time, you can select the precise day and time.

If you decide later that you want to send the message immediately, do the following:

  1. Switch to the Drafts folder.
  2. Open the delayed message.
  3. Select the Send button.
