How to register and manage devices for Duo

Introduction

Before you can use Duo, you will need to register at least one device.

Information Services strongly recommends that you register more than one device with Duo. In the event your primary device is lost, broken, or forgotten at home for a day, having a second method such as the landline phone number for your office and/or home registered means you won't have to contact the Technology Service Desk for assistance.

Registering Devices

Registering Phones and Tablets

Supported smart phones, tablets, and landline phones can all be registered through the Duo prompt.

New Duo Users

  1. Visit a Duo-protected service (such as UOmail, Canvas, UO Service Portal, etc)
  2. Log in with your Duck ID and password
  3. Click the Start setup button and follow Duo's prompts to register your first device

Existing Duo Users

  1. Open a private browser window (this will make the Duo prompt appear, even if you previously used the Remember Me feature)
  2. Visit a Duo-protected service (such as UOmail, Canvas, UO Service Portal, etc)
  3. Log in with your Duck ID and password
  4. On the left-hand side of the Duo prompt, select Add a new device
  5. Complete the prompt to verify yourself with a previously used device
  6. Follow the prompts to complete your registration

Registering hardware tokens

For most people, a cell phone, tablet, or landline phone will be the most convenient option to use with Duo. If you don't have one of those available, you can instead use a hardware token.

Hardware tokens must be registered through the UO Service Portal.
