Question

How do I add anchors to make a table of contents in an article?

Solution

If you have multiple (more than three) subheadings in an article, create a Table of Contents subsection (Heading 3) within the Overview (Heading 2) section

  1. Go to each heading and select the Anchor icon (indicated by a dark flag on a light background)
Anchor link in TDX article editor
  2. Enter the Anchor Name (e.g., anchor, heading-name, etc.) then select OK.
Anchor Name field in the Anchor Properties window
  3. Copy and paste special (Ctrl+Shift+V for Windows; ⌘-Shift-V for macOS) every subheading into a bulleted list in the Table of Contents subsection.
  4. Highlight the text there, then choose Ctrl+L (for Windows), ⌘+L (for macOS) or the Link icon (indicated by three chain links in the toolbar).
Link button in the TDX article editor
  5. A dialog box will appear. Under Link Type, select the Link to anchor from the text option. Select the appropriate anchor for each subheading then select OK
Anchor selection screen in the Link editor dialog.
  6. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the whole list is completed.
