Learn more about 1Password through frequently asked questions compiled from its rollout to campus.

- You can use 1Password to store and autofill your Duck ID password for UO logins, including Shibboleth single sign-on and the UO Microsoft login.
- If you would like to start autocompleting that login screen, you can store your Duck ID password within 1Password.
- You’ll have to choose a separate password for 1Password itself.
- You should always choose a unique password for your 1Password account that is different from your Duck ID password.
- If you’ve set up biometric unlock on your device — such as fingerprint or facial recognition — then you can still access your passwords on your phone or laptop even if you can't connect to 1Password. You can still use 1Password even if you don’t have a network connection, or if 1Password experiences a service outage.
- If you use 1Password without an active connection, your vaults work in cached mode. Any changes you make won’t sync until 1Password is back online.
- You will need your account’s Emergency Kit in order to recover your account. 1Password recommends printing it then storing it in a secure place.
- Warning: Information Services is unable to recover your individual or personal account for you.
- We recommend using shared vaults — with multiple owners — for anything you’d like to share with your team or department, or that may be needed by your colleagues or successor after you leave the UO. With a shared vault, even if one owner forgets their password, the shared vault will still be usable. If all owners depart from the UO, Information Services can assign a new owner.

- No. 1Password is optional at this time.
- However, we strongly recommend it because it provides important security benefits.
- Yes. However, you can only have one password manager set to autofill your passwords.
- If you have multiple password managers, you’ll need to manage them carefully. It can reportedly be done through the browser extensions provided by each password manager being used.
- Once a password is entered, you will be able to choose where it is stored.
