Printing jobs and self-service pay printers

To submit a print job online, visit UO Portland print submission form and upload your file(s). Jobs will be printed between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and left outside the Output Room (WSB Room 553) for pickup.

To submit a print job in person, or if you have any printing or technical support questions, visit the Output Room during regular business hours.

Self-service pay printers can currently be found in the following locations: inside the Portland Library, and inside the Computer Lab (INNO 118). The Library and Computer Lab printers print color and B&W documents up to tabloid (11"x17”) size. Visit the Computer Lab Printing article for directions on how to install these printers on your computer. Note: Your personal laptop must be connected to UO Secure Wi-Fi to access the pay printers when not using a resident computer workstation.

The Output Room is a high-tech imaging facility operated by User Support Services (USS) for the UO community in Portland. This service desk provides high-quality, mediated printing, wide-format printing to a variety of materials, large format scanning, vinyl cutting, portfolio binding, lamination and multimedia consultation.

Vinyl signs: The Output Room is equipped with a 24" Roland Vinyl Cutter capable of making very detailed single-color signs and lettering for application on nearly any surface. Detailed instructions on applying adhesive vinyl lettering can be found several places online. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions.

  • LaserJet printing is $0.25 for letter-size prints and $0.50 for tabloid.

Non-UO pricing

Printing Procedures

  • Any custom papers to be used on our laser printer must be brought in the box they were purchased in. The box must state that the media is safe for laser printing. We cannot print on custom media that isn't labeled laser safe as it could damage the printer's fuser.
  • Any double-sided (imposition) booklet prints need to be formatted as print-ready PDFs. Here is a guide on exporting a Postscript file (which can be converted to in Acrobat) from InDesign's Print Booklet feature.

Printer Setup (Output Room)

If you have any problems installing the printers please bring your laptop to the Output Room and let us assist you with the installation. Installation instruction handouts are also available in printed form outside the Output Room window.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it usually take to print a large-format document?
This varies greatly, depending on how many people are waiting to print. When there is no queue of prints ahead of yours (and there usually isn't, except during Midterm and Final Architectural reviews), most documents can typically be printed in less than 30 minutes (depending on size, and barring any technical difficulties).

To be sure your document is printed by the time you need it, be sure to give yourself a two-to-three hour buffer between dropping off your file and expecting it to be ready.

Do you have any laminating or binding capabilities in the Output Room?
We have two binding options; Fastback fabric and wire-O. We have samples of both styles onsite for you look at. Binding prices start at $2.00 per document.

We have limited lamination available for 8.5"x14" or smaller documents. Please inquire at the desk about lamination availability.

Can I bring in my own paper to print on?
Yes, you most certainly can. If you intend to print on the Xerox Phaser 7800 LaserJet, you must bring in the box the paper came in so that we can be sure it is laser printer compatible (i.e., it won't melt inside the printer, which reaches temperatures of 392°F).

The cost of custom-media prints is the same as our basic paper; heavyweight matte for the wide-format printers and plain paper for the LaserJet. When using custom paper, the customer is responsible for the costs of any test prints.

Additionally, due to the increased time required to load, configure and test specialty media, the Output Room will typically be able to begin such prints only after the completion of all standard print jobs for the day. To maintain realistic expectations of turnaround time, please expect at least one business day for the completion of custom media prints.

What if my question isn't listed here?
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at the Output Room.
