Enabling Zoom Waiting Room for Personal Meeting

Summary

Zoom provides multiple features to help us control who joins meetings and when. The Waiting Room is one such popular feature.
While applying it as part of scheduling a meeting is relatively straight-forward, finding where to apply this setting to our personal zoom meeting is not.
Please try these steps.

Question

How do I enable the Waiting Room for my Zoom personal meeting?

Solution

Two options are available to you.

Option A - Desktop application

In almost all our use cases for Zoom, the Waiting Room option should be configured, for individual meetings and, if we must use it, our personal meeting.

To update your personal meeting settings please do the following:

  1.  Open your Zoom desktop application
  2.  On the client home screen, please select the downward facing chevron on the side of the New meeting button
    1. From the menu, mouse over your Personal Meeting ID
    2. From the submenu, select PMI settings
New Meeting > PMI Settings menu
  3. From the Personal Meeting ID Settings menu do the following:
    1. Make sure Passcode and Waiting Room are enabled
    2. [Optional] Enable Only authenticated users can join
      1. This can be scoped to anyone with any kind of Zoom account, or further restricted specifically to UO Zoom accounts. Make sure this setting and your patient instructions are consistent with each other.

    Meetings settings, Personal Room tab
  5. Make sure Passcode and Waiting Room options are selected
Passcode and Waiting Room options selected
  6. [Optional] Enable Only authenticated users can join
    1. This can be scoped to anyone with any kind of Zoom account, or further restricted specifically to UO Zoom accounts. Make sure this setting and your patient instructions are consistent with each other.
