Question
How do I connect to UO Secure on my ChromeOS device (i.e., Chromebook, Chromebox, Chromebit, Chromebase, etc.)?
Solution
Configuring your device for UO Secure
Note: You will need to have a network connection of some kind (cellular service, mobile hotspot,
UO Guest, wired/Ethernet connection, etc.) to follow this process.
- Visit wifi.uoregon.edu and select Get connected.
- Let the system automatically detect that you are using ChromeOS. If the auto-detection fails, manually select ChromeOS from the drop-down box.
- Select Install to open up the Chrome Webstore for the JoinNow MultiOS Chrome extension.
- Select Add to Chrome to install the extenstions. You must be logged in to a non-guest ChromeOS profile to do this.
- Select Add extension if you get a pop-up confirming you want to Add "JoinNow MultiOS"?

- Once the extension has been added, return to the University of Oregon branded page. It will say the Chrome extension was install successfully.
- Select Sign In.
- A new browser window will open showing the Entra ID login screen. Use your full UO email address and password to sign-in. You may also be prompted for your two-step login as well.
- You will be returned to the University of Oregon branded page. Select Download button. It will automatically save the ONC file to your device.
- It will automatically open a new tab that is chrome://network#general. Switch to that tab.
- In the Import ONC File section of the network screen, select Choose File and upload the ONC file you just downloaded. Once you upload the file, it will tell you how many networks were imported. There should be two: UO Secure and eduroam. If you get an error but it still says that two networks were imported, please try to continue to the next step.

- Connect to the UO Secure network. You may get an additional Join Wi-Fi network pop-up window, which you should click Connect on. You will not have to enter your username or password as that is included in the ONC file that was already loaded.
Getting an error about "network not in range" when you finish this process?
- Off campus: This is normal, and your device should connect automatically when you come to campus. (The error message may also say your password may be incorrect—which may be true if you get to campus and your device doesn't connect automatically; see below.)
- On campus: Your password is likely incorrect. You may need to start the process over again, or visit the Technology Service Desk for help.
Common Issues
If you are receiving the message "Errors occurred during ONC parsing. Networks imported: 2" when importing your ONC file, you may be able to ignore that error. Try to connect to UO Secure anyways as it may just work. If it does not, contact the Technology Service Desk for more assistance.
If you are receiving the message "Errors occurred during ONC parsing. Networks imported: 0" when importing your ONC file, make sure you have forgotten the UO Secure network and the eduroam networks completely from your Network Settings. Then restart the device and try the steps above again.
Some Acer Chromebooks have a bug where the screen doesn't change when you select the ONC file when trying to import it to the network settings. Even though it doesn't look like the file was loaded, it actually does load correctly. All that needs to be done after that is follow step 8. (You may need to enter the username and password though, contrary to what step 8 says)
Depending on your settings and the version of Chrome OS you are using, the some pages may open in an incognito tab which may prevent you from following the setup process. If this happens, simply copy and paste the URL of the configuration page into a non-incognito Chrome window to proceed.
