Overview
1Password for business, used by employees at the University of Oregon, allows secure sharing of passwords. Shared password vaults contain items you would like to share with your department, team, or that may be needed by your colleagues or successor after you leave the UO – even if you are not sharing it now.
About shared vaults
Using shared vaults allows you to
- Share passwords or other secure information with selected colleagues, teams, or departments
- Assign granular permissions appropriate for each user, such as view-only or edit
- Assign two owners to a vault for business continuity – so information is not lost
Some uses for shared vaults
- Departmental social media passwords
- Passcodes to secure locations/door codes
- Logins to software or cloud services
- Product or license keys to purchased items
- Shared account numbers
- Information for specific projects
- A repository for information that will need to be passed down to your successor or needed for business continuity if you leave the university.
Create and share vaults
Vaults are like folders that help you organize your passwords and other items.
Sign in to your account on 1Password.com or open and unlock the 1Password app to get started.
Warning! If someone can manage a vault, they can also delete it. Be careful about granting this level of permission. A deleted vault cannot be recovered.
Sharing individual items in your vault
If you need to share an individual item with someone that does not have access to your vault, you can share it using a link.
To share a password using a link:
- Find the item and click the Share button.
- Add the recipient's email address and Share or Copy the link.
Note: Current sharing policies only allow direct sharing with other UO accounts.
Warning! Individually shared items can only be viewed one time by the recipient
