Autodeletion Timeline
When you delete an email in UOmail, it moves to your Deleted Items folder.
Deleted emails will follow this timeline starting October 14, 2025:
- After 30 days in Deleted Items: Emails will be automatically moved to a hidden folder called “Recoverable Items.” This is like a hidden secondary trash folder from which emails can still be recovered.
- After 30 days in “Recoverable Items”: Emails will be automatically and permanently deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Please select the question to view the answer.
- Your Deleted Items folder uses storage space. Permanently deleting those emails frees up space.
- That helps ensure we have room for active use of our Microsoft platform by UO faculty, staff, and students—for documents, spreadsheets, videos, chats, emails, and more—without incurring extra costs.
Yes and no.
- While emails are in UOmail’s Deleted Items folder, you can recover them and move them to another folder.
- You can also recover emails after they've moved to the hidden “Recoverable Items” folder. Here's how:
- Visit uomail.uoregon.edu (or use Outlook for Windows). Go to your Deleted Items folder. Look for a link at the top that says Recover deleted items from this folder. Click it to restore messages from your "Recoverable Items" folder.
- However, once an email has been permanently deleted from the "Recoverable Items" folder according to the schedule noted above, it can’t be recovered — not even by UO admins.
