Configuring Mail Application for macOS

Question

  • Configuring the Mail application to work with your University of Oregon email. These directions work for MacOS and OSX.

Solution

Webmail Users

  1. For the mail account type select the last option, "Add Other Mail Account..."
  2. Enter your name as you would like it to appear in your email messages
  3. Enter your UOregon email address
  4. Enter your Duck ID password
  5. Click the Create button
  6. Mail will say the account must be manually configured. Click the Next button 
  7. From the Account Type menu, select IMAP
  8. In the Mail Server box, enter "imap.uoregon.edu"
  9. In the User Name box, enter your Duck ID username (which is the first part of your UO email address)
  10. Enter your Duck ID password
  11. Click the Next button
  12. In the Outgoing Mail Server box enter "smtp.uoregon.edu"
  13. In the User Name box, enter your Duck ID username
  14. Enter your Duck ID password
  15. Click the Create button

Configuration is complete! You should be able to view your inbox as well as all folders created within your webmail account.

 

Updating Password in Mail

For ver. 10 and up

  1. Open Mac Mail.
  2. In the top left corner, click on "Mail".
  3. Click "Preferences..." A new window will appear.
  4. Click "Accounts" at the top.
  5. Select your Uoregon IMAP account on the left hand side of the new window.
  6. Select "Server Settings".
  7. Under "Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)" verify your information is correct.
  8. Update your "Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)" to your current password.
  9. Under "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" verify your information is correct.
  10. Update your "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" to your current password.
  11. Close the window to save your settings.
  12. Send a test email to yourself. "Compose", address it to yourself, put in something for the subject and body (e.g. "test") and hit send.
  13. If you are able to receive this message in your inbox, then you have been successful in changing your password.

For below ver. 10

  1. Open Mac Mail.
  2. In the top left corner, click on "Mail".
  3. Click "Preferences..." A new window will appear.
  4. Select your Uoregon IMAP account on the left hand side of the new window.
  5. At the bottom of the window, find "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):" and click the drop-down menu.
  6. Select "Edit SMTP Server List..." A new window will appear.
  7. Make sure the "smtp.uoregon.edu" server is selected.
  8. In the middle of the window, find the "Advanced" tab.
  9. At the bottom of the window, change your password in the "Password:" field. 
  10. Click "OK" button. Close the "Accounts" window.
  11. Send a test email to yourself. "Compose", address it to yourself, put in something for the subject and body (e.g. "test") and hit send.
  12. If you are able to receive this message in your inbox, then you have been successful in changing your password.
