Oracle 11gR2 Client Installation

Overview

This article will walk through the installation of the Oracle 11gR2 Client for use with Resource25 (R25) and Data Warehouse (DWHS) services.

Information

 

Step One: Download and Rename the Oracle 11gR2 Client Installer

  • Map a network drive to \\public.uoregon.edu\windows\ccsetup as follows: 
    • Open a new Windows Explorer window
    • For Windows 7, click on Tools on the menu bar, then click Map Network Drive...
    • For Windows 10, click on This PC, then Map Network Drive in the top bar.
    • Use the following settings:
      • Drive: W:
      • Folder: \\public.uoregon.edu\windows\ccsetup
      • Uncheck both Reconnect at sign-in and Connect using different credentials.
      • Click Finish
    • If prompted, log in using your duckID username and password. Prefix your duckID username with ad\
      • Username: ad\username
      • Password: ********
    • You should now have a mounted Public drive mapped to W:/
  • From UO DWHS Tools , download Oracle Client Installation to your desktop by right clicking on it, Save Link As/Save Target As, then save to your desktop. 
  • If the file should be named Oracle 11gR2 32 bit Client.bat.  If it is not, rename the file, single-click on it then press the [F2] key and rename it to Oracle 11gR2 32 bit Client.bat and press the [enter] key to complete the renaming.

 

Step Two: Run the Oracle 11gR2 Client Installer

  • Once the Oracle installer has been downloaded to your desktop, right click on the file and press Run as administrator.
  • A command prompt should now appear on your screen. Be patient while it installs. It may take several minutes for the installer to complete. 
  • Once complete, there should now be a folder called ORACLE_UOIS located in the root of your C:/ drive. 

Step Three: Copy the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files to your hard drive

  • From UO DWHS Tools, right click and Save As  Tnsnames.ora and Sqlnet.ora files to C:\ORACLE_UOIS\ORACLE_11g_R2_CLIENT\network\admin\
  • If you are unable to save the above files directly into that folder, save them to your desktop, then copy/paste them into the above folder. 

 

Step Four: Setup ODBC
(Required for R25 Crystal Reports, or non-BiQuery DWHS access; Optional for others)

  • Windows 7 32 bit: 
    • Open the Control Panel
    • Search Administrative Tools
    • Open Data Sources (ODBC)
  • Windows 7/10 64 bit:
    • Press start
    • Type cmd then hit [enter]
    • Type cd \windows\syswow64

      • Note: if you are not already in your C:\ drive, type "c:" without the quotes then hit enter

    • Type odbcad32

  • Click on the System DSN tab on the top.

  • Click Add on the right.

  • In the Create New Data Source window, scroll down and select Oracle in OraClinet 11g_home1 and hit Finish. A new window called Oracle ODBC Driver Configuration should appear.

DWHS Users

In the Oracle ODBC Driver Configuration window, configure the window to look like the below:

In the User ID field, change username to your own duckID.

Once completed, DWHSodbc should appear in your User DSN tab.

 

Resource 25 (R25) Users

In the Oracle ODBC Driver Configuration window, configure the window to look like the below:

In the User ID field, change username to your own duckID.

Once completed, r25p should appear in your System DSN tab.

 

Resource 25 (R25) TEST Users

In the Oracle ODBC Driver Configuration window, configure the window to look like the below:

In the User ID field, change username to your own duckID.

Once completed, r25t should appear in your System DSN tab.
