Purpose
While automated captions can provide a great starting point for video and audio files, they frequently contain mistakes, and even small errors can affect meaning and comprehension. This is particularly significant for content with specialized terminology, jargon, or proper names, as well for conversational content (where multiple speakers may talk at the same time), suboptimal audio (significant background noise, lower-quality or distant microphones, etc.), foreign-language content, and speakers with stronger accents.
It's therefore important to edit and correct automated captions, but since that responsibility generally falls directly on the busy faculty and staff who created the content, there are circumstances where it may be preferable to outsource captioning work. For situations where automated captions aren't an option (even as a starting point), outsourcing captioning work can also be extremely helpful.
Setting up a purchase order
As of August 4, 2026, University of Oregon units are authorized to procure services from 3Play Media under the Oregon State University Co-operative Contract #P2025-016841BK.
When issuing a purchase order against the above referenced Contract, please include the following language:
"This purchase is pursuant to Oregon State University Contract #P2025-016841BK between Oregon State University 3Play Media, resulting from Oregon State University RFP. University of Oregon Purchase Order Standard Terms and Conditions apply to this purchase. In the event of conflict between Oregon State University Contract #P2025-016841BK and University of Oregon Purchase Order Standard Terms and Conditions, University of Oregon Standard Terms and Conditions shall control."
