Introduction
This article will prepare faculty and students with the knowledge to use a provisioned class specific file-share, or how to request one if required. The class file share is used by students and faculty to access certain course documents, and for students to upload certain course files.

How to Request a Class File-Share
Each term class file shares must be requested in order to be provisioned. The process to request a share involves the following:
- Start the request process by creating a ticket by either clicking the button in the right navigation, or clicking the Create a Ticket Link Here.
- In the request intake form fill out the following info:
- Set the title to Need a Class File Share Provisioned
- Check the 'Other' box under What do you Need? section
- Under the description, tell us what class and CRN the course share is for
- Either add a list of instructor/GE's and student duckIDs (first part of their email) to the description, or attach a Microsoft Excel file containing this information to the ticket.
- Click Request Support button and someone will assist in creating your class file-share
How to Access/Use a Class File-share
Using UO Open Lab
- Open a browser log into the UO Open Lab
- On the bottom of the webpage for the UO Open Lab, you will see a small folder in the task bar. This is File Explorer. Click on the folder
- Select files\courses (R:)
- You will see your class file share (see example below)
- If this was for Architecture 484 you would see a folder called ARCH484_ClassCRN_ClassTerm
Using Windows File Explorer
- Make sure your computer is connected to a UO Network or log into the UO VPN
- The file share or shared folder will not auto mount. You need to mount the file share or shared folder manually
- On the task bar, you will see a small folder. This is File Explorer. Click on this folder
- In the address bar of File Explorer, type the path of your file share in this format
\\files.uoregon.edu\courses\Classes
- If you are NOT using an UO-issued device, you will be prompted to enter your Duck ID
- If this was for Geography 485/585 with a CRN of 12246 for Fall 2022 you would see a folder called GEOG485_585_12246_FALL2022
- Open the folder
Using macOS
- Make sure your computer is connected to a UO Network or log into the UO VPN
- The file share / shared folder will not auto mount. You need to mount the file share or shared folder manually
- Press Command (⌘)+K
- A box will appear that says Connect to Server
- In the text field, type the path to your file share in the following format:
smb://files.uoregon.edu/courses/classes
- If you are NOT using an UO issued device, you will be prompted to enter your Duck ID credentials. Make sure the box that says Registered User is checked.
- Select Connect
- If this was for Geography 485/585 with a CRN of 12246 for Fall 2022 you would see a folder called GEOG485_585_12246_FALL2022
- Open the folder
