Overview

This article walks through the steps to map a university file share on Mac and Windows computers.

Information

Note: For all users, if you are on campus, follow the directions below. If you are off campus, please start with connecting over VPN, then follow the guide below.

Select the appropriate tab depending on your operating system.

Follow the steps below:

  1.  Open Finder from your Dock.

  2. With Finder as the active window, click Go at the top of the screen. This will show a menu with multiple options.

  3. From this new menu, click Connect to Server. This will open a new window with an empty text box labeled Server Address:

  4. In the empty text box, enter the path for your departments file share and click Connect
    1. e.g., smb://<address-here> 
    2. Ask your department admin for the full address.

  5. Finder will ask you to verify that you want to connect. Select Connect to proceed.

  6. Upon connecting to the server, you may be asked to connect to a particular folder within the share. Select the desired folder, then select OK.

Follow the steps below:

  1. In File Explorer, navigate to This PC
  2. Select •••
  3. Select Map network drive

  4. Check Connect using different credentials if using a personal computer.

  5. Enter the file share address: \\server\share
  6. When prompted, enter your Duck ID username and password.
    1. If you're on an unmanaged computer, ensure to add AD\ before your Duck ID username: AD\yourduckid

Follow the steps below:

  1. In File Explorer, navigate to This PC
  2. Select the Computer tab
  3. Select Map network drive

  4. Check Connect using different credentials if using a personal computer.

  5. Enter the file share address: \\server\share
  6. When prompted, enter your Duck ID username and password.
    1. If you're on an unmanaged computer, ensure to add AD\ before your Duck ID username: AD\yourduckid
