UOCloud Provisionable Storage SLA


UOCloud Storage is available to IT departments, and campus researchers. It is a scalable and secure file-based storage that can be offered to Windows clients via CIFS (SMBv2/SMBv3) protocol. For linux clients it is available via NFSv3. See below for information about features, service options, eligibility, etc.

  • Windows Clients:
    • CIFS/SMB Access from all UO campus subnets. It is available from off-campus, but requires UO VPN to access it.
    • Default snapshot policy of 2 dailies, 2 weeklies, and 6 hourlies.
      • Self-service file restores and versioning via Windows "Previous Versions"
    • Self-service access control via UO AD Users/Groups
  • Linux Clients
    • NFSv3 Access from all UO Campus subnets. It is available off-campus, but requires UO VPN to access it.
    • Default snapshot policy of 2 dailies, 2 weeklies, and 6 hourlies.
      • Self-service file restores and versioning via .snapshots directory.
    • Access control via IP export policy
  • Usage based monthly average billing

Service Options

The following service options are available:

  • File storage with daily backups
  • File storage without daily backups (customer is responsible for their own backups)
  • Data center redundancy - a second copy of your data in a second data center
  • File storage with archival backups (data is backed up 1x/month SLA: https://service.uoregon.edu/TDClient/KB/ArticleDet?ID=70372)


For IT departments with UO-affiliated faculty, staff, researchers, academic units, and administrative units. Purchasing storage requires a UO index.

The service is intended for IT departments to provide file-services to their customers.  This storage service is not intended for an individual UO faculty, staff, or student.

Availability & Security

  • Security: Authenticated access to named file shares
  • Physical security: The data is stored on storage platforms located in secure enterprise data center facilities
  • Reliability: There is physical redundancy in all hardware
  • 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Tuesday 5am-7am is scheduled maintenance.

  • File storage without backup: $0.0036/GB/Month = $45/TB/Year
  • File storage with one DR copy per month: $.008/GB/Month = $100/TB/Year
  • File storage with multiple copies: Cost is double the chosen model
  • File storage with daily off-site price model is currently being developed

Additional Information


This service is considered "HIPAA and FERPA Aligned", meaning the core required compliance features are available for customers to implement and manage. The ongoing use of these compliance features are the customer's responsibility. Please note there have been no formal third-party compliance reviews, only UO internal reviews.
