How to Clear Skype for Business Cache

Please note: Skype for Business is currently available only to UO employees.


Skype for business caches files locally on your PC or Mac to pull information quickly and efficiently. Sometimes you may need to clear your cache to resolve specific issues. This article explains how to clear your cache on your PC or Mac.


Common reasons you will want to clear you Skype for Business cache include:

  • You can't log in to Skype for Business
  • Your Outlook and Skype for Business integration is not functioning properly
  • You have issues with Presence
  • Your Contact list is out of date
  • You cannot search for users in Skype for Business

Clearing Skype for Business Cache in Windows

  1. Log out of Skype for Business
  2. Delete any sign-in information
  3. Exit Skype for Business
  4. Navigate to Users > [Your Username] > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Office > 15.0 > Lync
  5. Delete the sip_profileName folder
  6. Delete all files in Tracing folder.  Do not delete the folder itself
  7. Navigate to Users > [Your Username] > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Office > 16.0 > Lync
  8. Delete the sip_profileName folder
  9. Delete all files in Tracing folder.  Do not delete the folder itself
  10. Open the command prompt and run ipconfig /flushdns

Clearing Skype for Business Cache in macOS

  1. Log out of and quit Skype for Business
  2. Go to Finder
  3. Press Command+Shift+G or click Go > Go to Folder
  4. Type ~/library and press Return
  5. Delete the following bold files:
    • Containers >
    • Internet Plug-Ins > MeetingJoinPlugin.plugin
    • Logs > LwaTracing
    • Saved Application State >
    • Preferences >
  6. Open Keychain Access from the /Applications/Utilities folder
  7. Delete all keychains starting with Skype for Business
