Setting Up Email: Outlook 2013 for Windows

Accessing Your Account

When using Outlook 2013 for the first time follow the directions below:

  1. On the first Welcome screen that appears click Next
  2. Select Yes to set up Outlook to connect to an email account and click Next
  3. Select Manual setup or additional server types and click Next
  4. Select POP or IMAP and click Next
  5. Configure the settings as follows:
    • Your Name: Enter your name
    • Email Address: Enter your UO email address
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: Enter
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Enter
    • User Name: Enter your Duck ID
    • Password: Enter your Duck ID password
  6. Click on More Settings and configure the settings as follows:
    • Outgoing Server
      • Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
      • Ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected
    • Advanced
      • Incoming server (IMAP): Enter 993
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
      • Outgoing server (SMTP): Enter 587
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS
  7. Click OK to exit the More Settings menu
  8. Click Next to test the connections to the email server
  9. Once the testing completes click Finish

After testing the connection Outlook should default to your inbox and all online folder should be accessible. 

If you have previously configured Outlook, use these instructions:

If you have already set up an account in Outlook, follow these steps to setup an additional account:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. From the File menu, select Account and Social Network Settings then Account Settings
  3. In the window that pops up select New...
  4. Follow the relevant steps above to setup another email account


Updating Your Password

  1. Click the File tab at the top-left corner of the window.
  2. Click the Account Settings button.
  3. Click the Account Settings option from the drop-down menu.
  4. Select your email account, then click the Change button.
  5. Delete the current value in the Password field and enter the new password. 
  6. Click the Next button. Outlook will then confirm that it is able to communicate with your email provider.

Exchange and UOmail

Microsoft Outlook 2013 for Windows is not compatible with Exchange/UOmail and should not be used.
