When first using a new tool, understanding the terminology used can be helpful! Below are some common terms you may see when using Zoom.

Definition |
Host |
This is the person that scheduled the Zoom meeting. Hosts have full permissions to manage the meeting and there can only be one host of a meeting. |
Co-host |
Co-hosts can share most of the controls that hosts have. For example, managing attendees. The host must assign a co-host during the meeting. Co-hosts cannot start meetings.

Alternative Host |
Alternative hosts share the same controls as co-hosts, but can also start the meetings.

Participant/Participation List |
Users joining your meeting. By default, in a meeting, participants are restricted from sharing their video, screen, and audio.

Meeting (non-recurring) |
Meetings are assigned an ID when they are scheduled. Meeting IDs expire 30 days after the scheduled meeting date, if the meet is not recorded.

Recurring Meeting |
Zoom allows you to schedule meetings with multiple occurrences, so that each occurrence uses the same meeting ID and settings. Recurring meeting IDs expire 365 days after the meeting was last started.

Invitation |
When you schedule a meeting, participants will receive an email invitation with the time and virtual location of the meeting.

Polls |
Polling feature in meetings allow you to create a single choice or multiple choice polling question for you meeting. You can launch the poll during your meeting and gather responses from participants.
